Not too long ago it hit me - that I, even as a ʻserious adultʻ, could still do the things I love on purpose. I know, it sounds silly and maybe a bit dramatic but when I started getting serious about my business I didnʻt know many others out there photographing indigenious people in their regalia or traditional clothing. I am of indigenious decent and also a Polynesian dancer, so ever since I can remember practicing my traditional culture or doing cultural exchanges with people from other tribes was normal for me. And when I got my hands on my first camera I would naturally take pictures of my friends, family and new friends as they shared song, dance and their unique way of life.....anyways, fast forward to now and Iʻve finally married the two - my photography training in a non indignious context with who I am - a mixplate native. And I really hope you like the results, as I begin sharing them here in this digital world.
Keola & his beautiful mama and the kapa that he hand stamped.....I wonʻt share all there is to his story, because itʻs not mine to tell. But this was such a special photo session as he embarked on a new journey and honored the one who helped him start his journey from the beginning.
Enjoy this Cultural Photo session on the stunning volcanic lava fields on the Big island of Hawaii with some good looking Kanaka (Hawaiian Natives).
